My Sewing Challenges!

I have joined 2 sewing challenges/sew alongs. Now I have to make a plan to get them done. I will be attempting to integrate the two to have an even better collection.

These are the directions and schedules:

My Sewing Goals

I have an intermediate goal of making myself some simple dresses and pants.  I also want to make my son a Halloween costume.  In the end, my goal is to be able to make my son two suits from patterns.  I will also be working on the Tasha's Sewing Tuts 2013 Fall Fashion Challenge.  As of this moment, I do not have a sewing machine.  I will be doing as much by hand as possible as I learn about following and drafting patterns and various sewing techniques. I have recently taken advantage of pattern sales and my choices have indicated my own ambition. (Some of my patterns do NOT say, "Easy." You will see this when I post my Butterick haul next week.)

This post serves as a resource listing if things that I, a beginning sewer, want to learn immediately.  This post links to tutorials on sewing techniques and pattern alterations, especially making them bigger.

Quickest, Easiest Natural Hair Care Regimen Ever!

In my first or second blog post, I stated that over the next six weeks I would find go to healthy meals, but what good is all this fly (I mean beyond obvious health benefits) if my hair looks like rats been sucking on it?

I have been looking at natural hair care regimens and this is what I am finding:
Friday: Pre-poo overnight (put grease and conditioner in your hair and sleep on it.)
Saturday: Co-wash your hair. (Wash with conditioner which no cosmetologist will tell you is a good idea. They suggest using a sulfate free conditioner.) Do whatever you plan on doing to it so it can dry.
Sunday or Monday: Take it down! You are fit to leave the house.
Somewhere in the middle of the week: You require some sort of hairdo renewal so that you can make it back to...
Friday!

So, I have been looking for a few go to styles for when I go back to work and just in general. I need to bring sexy back! I have been considering how I will maintain my fitness routine when I go back to work. One issue that I will face is maintaining my hair-do. A lot of black women don't workout because it will totally ruin a do. (I know! I was one of those women for years, but all that changes now!) We don't have the luxury of having hair that is well accepted in its natural state within the workplace. You can do semi-natural--you know all the styles with all the products all over YouTube. That is what I call semi-natural because there is nothing natural about all that work! So, I began my quest for a few low-maintenance hairstyles that will allow me to work out and not look like the 70s THREW UP on my head (although I have donned that look on many occasion).

So tomorrow, I have a plan! This is something that I need to have perfected before I go back to work. I am no fan of doing big work to my hair more than once a week. Even when I wore my hair pressed straight, I never did more than wrap it at night to maintain. Never put heat in more than once. In fact, contrary to popular belief, my hair grows really well pressed! but is isn't so good for my new active lifestyle. Anyways, I refuse to spend too much time getting cute. There are too many other things I would rather do!

So, tomorrow:

Trying Out Recipes From SkinnyTaste.com

In an effort to be more healthy, one of my goals is to find five to seven go-to recipes that are healthy. So, I have been subscribing to SkinnyTaste.com for a while now and figure that now is as good a time as any to begin trying recipes. So, I skimmed the archives (and boy are there archives!) and found some recipes that interest me. So over the next few weeks, I will try these recipes and tell you how they taste. (In case you couldn't figure, I love Mexican foods! I also enjoy fast food and soul food.  So I will be looking for recipes for these, too.  And I will tell you how they are.)

Getting Started with Weight Watchers

I haven't decided what I will do for the nutrition portion of my weight loss program, but I am considering Weight Watchers.  Don't know which program yet. I also want to provide this for anyone who may find it useful.  If I decide to use this system, I will add all of the daily use widgets to the sidebar.  If not, feel free to bookmark the page.

Read the Bible in French and Spanish

So one of my goals is to read the Bible more. Another is to learn foreign languages. Why not combine the two. I figure if there is one thing I should understand in a foreign language, it is the Word. Now, don't get me wrong. In no way am I fluent enough in anything but English to understand, but I think that once I have read in English a good review and reflect would be to reread in another language especially if the English is side by side with the foreign language. It may be difficult at first, but I will get it.

I like this website because it offers the opportunity to read the Bible in several languages side by side. So I will try it and see how it goes.

I Will Study the Bible

I need to be more familiar with the Bible because I know that people can excerpt and make it say anything they want. What I don't understand is why people don't just look up what they don't know. The Internet is a handy tool for Googling Bible verses so that you can put them in context. Whenever someone quotes me a text, I try to Google it and read it in context. I mean, I don't even have to lug out the physical Bible anymore.

Anyways, I want to get to the point where I don't need to lug out the Bible but do still get it up because I want to do so. I also want to reflect in prayer more and be more grateful and faithful. This will improve my attitude tremendously making me less stressed and more positive and optimistic. The Lord can do that for me!

I also need to plan how I will share with my Mini Me.

UPDATE: I found a resource for teaching my LO about the Bible. A Christian homeschool site: Easy Peacy.

In My First Effort at Fitness--Running

Ok so this is going to be my first go at losing weight. I am going to try to make a lifestyle change. And all that yada jazz!

But for real though... I remember my dear friend telling me of the time she mouthed off to her mother and her mother got mad. My friend was a teenager and well beyond that age when you come when you know your mother is going to blow yo' mouth out. So she ran. My friend told me that she was never so scared of her mother as when her mother caught her. Funny thing is that the whipping didn't scare my friend; it was the fact that her forty-something year old mother caught her.

I so want to be that mother. I have never been faster than anyone! I want to change that now!

I want to be Sonic the Hedgehog fast! I don't really want to catch my son for spankings as much as I want to race him and play catch and just enjoy his company and doing the things that he likes. So here goes...

Presenting...The-One-and-Only...Mother Teacher Scatterbrain

Every mother, woman, teacher...hell, person has a million things they want to do with their lives. Well, every interesting person does. I don't claim to be a good writer. I don't claim to be an exceptional story teller. I am just a momma and a teacher who is constantly mulling things over and this is my place to comment.

I believe that I can learn something from every person--even those I have deemed complete idiots! I also know that I can learn from every experience--even those that seem utterly useless! So on this blog I will take you along as I learn and grow as a Christian, mother, teacher, sister, daughter, aunt, friend, musician, polyglot, glampacker, couponer, permaculture activist, housekeeper, and anything else that tickles my fancy for the moment!

As the title implies, I can be all over the place. I once had a friend and coworker tell me that she loved to watch my face, especially at faculty meetings, because it changed every time my thoughts changed. And they change like the weather! I feel like life is full of so much beauty, excitement, happiness, love, friendship, peace, and adventure. Why limit my choices? My mother always told me to create situations in which I am able to choose not hoping to be chosen!

Above I listed some of my current and perspective roles. There are quite a few! This blog is a part of my effort to figure out how to do it all or at least prioritize. It is a place for me to reflect. So, why keep procrastinating? Let me start!

Here are the things that I want to do as of today!
