A part of teaching children literacy skills is to teach them phonemic awareness. I am reading to my son daily. I read him children's stories and nursery rhymes. I am going to work with him on a A Rhyme a Week.
I also read him adult pieces. He really likes James Weldon Johnson's The Creation.
We will also rock out to Mother Goose! (This is a part of phonemic awareness.)
